A woman is set to take on the West Highland Way this weekend to raise funds for a vital Girvan day centre.

Maureen Jones will walk the 96 mile route from Milngavie to Fort William, starting on Sunday, April 21.

The effort will aim to raise money for Nursery Court, a council-run, not-for-profit day centre in Girvan.

The centre supports local people who have dementia whilst also giving respite to those who care for them at home.

Maureen says her dad Gus spent "many happy days" at the centre, and wants to raise funds to support its work.

Maureen has set up a fundraising page, which has already reached £575 of her £600 target.

It reads: "As well as doing a brilliant job on their day to day roles, the brilliant staff fundraise to provide all the extras that make this place so very special.

"These extra funds have allowed them to provide a nail bar, hair dressing salon, green house and gardening project but my particular favourite is a room which is set up like an old fashioned train carriage .

"It has a screen which shows footage of spectacular scenery and an old fashioned suitcase with a camera and postcards which encourages the guests to reminisce and enjoy memories of happy days gone by.

"I only saw all this at a coffee morning last year which was a year after my dad had passed away but it left me wanting to give a little back so that others can enjoy the little extras and enjoy their time in this wonderful centre.

"We totally appreciate that there are many deserving causes so any contribution however small would be so very greatly received."
